Why does a pickleball doubles game start at 0-0-2?

The three numbers are the serving team's score, the receiving team's score, and the server number. At the start of each doubles game, the starting server is designated the second server for that team's first service rotation, so the opening call is 0-0-2.

This opening exception gives the first serving team only one server before its first side out. After later side outs, service starts with that team's correctly positioned first server.
