Is a double hit or carry legal in pickleball?

A ball may be hit more than once only when one player makes a continuous stroke in a single direction. Catching or carrying the ball on the paddle is a fault.

An accidental continuous double contact can be legal. A separate second swing, a hit by both partners, or a catch or carry is governed differently.
