Understand MYOPL Permissions

Updated August 23, 2026

Before you begin

MYOPL requests permissions when a feature needs them. Denying a permission does not delete your account, and most of Messenger remains available.

Notifications on iPhone, iPad, and Android

After a successful sign-in, the operating system may ask whether MYOPL can send notifications. Allow the permission to receive message alerts when the app is not open.

The current macOS, Windows, and web clients do not use this same mobile notification-permission flow.

Location

MYOPL uses approximate device location to sort nearby courts, clubs, and OPLs.

On iPhone, iPad, and Android, the request may appear soon after Messenger opens because MYOPL prepares nearby Browse results.

On the web, the browser may request location when Browse needs nearby sorting.

On macOS or Windows, follow the operating system or browser prompt if one appears for the feature in use.

If you deny it, Browse still works but results may not be ordered by distance.

To restore access on iPhone or iPad, open Settings → MYOPL Messenger → Location → While Using the App. On Android, open the app permissions for MYOPL Messenger and allow Location while using the app.

Contacts

MYOPL requests Contacts only when you select Find People You Know.

Open People.

Select Find People You Know.

Review the operating-system prompt.

Allow access to look for registered MYOPL members in the phone book.

This native contact matching is supported by the current iPhone, iPad, Android, and macOS apps. It is not available through the current web or Windows contact-sync service.

When allowed, MYOPL reads contact names and phone numbers and sends those pairs securely to MYOPL to identify matching members. It does not automatically send invitations or messages.

Photos and camera

Selecting a profile or group photo requests photo/file access when needed.

Take a photo may be offered on iPhone, iPad, Android, and web when the device and browser support camera capture.

macOS and Windows use the photo/file chooser rather than the creation camera option.

Later group-photo changes use a gallery or file selection.

For a new group, do not rely on a photo selected in the creation form. Create the group first, then open Group Info and upload the photo with the avatar pencil.

If access is denied

iPhone and iPad Contacts: Settings → MYOPL Messenger → Contacts → allow access.

Android Contacts: Settings → Apps → MYOPL Messenger → Permissions → Contacts.

MYOPL can continue showing People and Browse results without Contacts or Location access.

Expected result

Allowed permissions enable the corresponding alerts, nearby sorting, contact matching, or photo choice. A denied permission leaves the unrelated parts of Messenger available.
