What happens if a shot hits a player before bouncing out of bounds?

It is a fault against the player who was hit. Contact with the player or anything worn or carried by that player is a fault even when the ball otherwise would have landed out. The paddle and a hand below the wrist while that hand is holding the paddle are exceptions.

The ruling is based on the contact that occurs before the ball lands, not on a prediction about where the ball would have bounced.
