Edit Group Details and Photo

Updated August 23, 2026

Before you begin

You can edit these details if you are a group admin or the admin enabled Edit group settings for members.

Open Group Info

iPhone, iPad, and Android: open the group and tap its name in the header.

macOS and Windows: select the group, then select its header or Group info; the information opens in a side panel.

Web: open the group and select its header or Group info.

Change the group name

Select the pencil beside the group name.

Enter the new name.

Select the checkmark to save. Select X to cancel.

A blank name is rejected with Group name cannot be empty.

Change the About description

Scroll to ABOUT.

Select the pencil.

Enter up to 150 characters.

Select Save. Select Cancel to discard the edit.

An empty group displays No about description provided.

Change the group photo

Select the small pencil badge on the group avatar.

Choose an image from the gallery or file picker.

Wait for the upload confirmation before closing Group Info.

The browser accepts image files up to 5 MB. Installed clients use the gallery/file picker for this post-creation change.

Expected result

The saved name, About description, or photo updates in Group Info and the conversation header. Other members receive the updated group details.

If editing is unavailable

Ask an admin to make the change or enable Edit group settings.

If the image is rejected on the web, use an image file smaller than 5 MB.

If an upload fails, the previous photo remains; reconnect and retry.
