Manage Group Members and Admins

Updated August 23, 2026

Before you begin

Only group admins can change another member's role, remove a member, or suspend a member. The menu is not shown on your own member row.

On every platform

Open the group.

Open Group Info from the header or Group info menu action.

Scroll to MEMBERS.

Use Search members... to find someone in a long list.

Open the trailing dropdown beside that member.

Available actions are:

Make group admin: gives the member group-admin controls.

Dismiss as admin: returns an admin to a standard member role.

Remove: removes the member after confirmation.

Suspend Member or Unsuspend Member: changes temporary read-only access.

Remove a member

Select Remove.

Review Remove <name>?.

Select Remove User to confirm.

Expected result

Role changes update the admin badge. A removed member disappears from MEMBERS and loses access to the group conversation.

Approving new members

When Approve new members is on, link-based requests are not accepted from this member list. They appear as Member request cards above the group message composer.

If an action fails

Confirm that you are still a group admin.

Refresh Group Info before retrying; another admin may have changed the role or membership.

A failed removal or role change leaves the existing membership unchanged.
