Approve Group Join Requests

Updated August 23, 2026

Before you begin

You must be a group admin, and Approve new members must be enabled. This approval applies to people joining through an invite link.

iPhone, iPad, Android, macOS, Windows, and web

Open the group conversation.

Look above the message composer for a card marked Member request.

Select Accept to add the person.

Select Ignore to reject the request.

The request cards are in the conversation, not under the Group Info member list.

Expected result

Accept adds the person to MEMBERS and grants group access. Ignore removes the pending request without adding the person.

If no request appears

Confirm Approve new members is on in Group settings or Group permissions.

The person may not have completed sign-in after opening the link.

Another admin may already have accepted or ignored the request.

Refresh the conversation after reconnecting.
